Hooray for Weekends!
26 May
I know it’s only Tuesday, but I am so ready for this weekend. My first weekend with pay since I’ve been back in Oz!
I booked tickets to see the Comedy Festival Roadshow on Saturday night with Miss Jones, we are going to the final show which means 1) It will be tops since all the comedians go and get pissed afterward (if they aren’t already smashed) 2) It’s late, so we can go be grown ups and have beautiful cocktails after the show. Plus, yay, I love getting dressed to go out. With any luck, we’ll go to The Bowery, I’ve not been there since I’ve been back in Oz and I am most excited, it’s the best place to drink in Brisbane (in my opinion, if you like excellent cocktails, places to sit and non-sticky floors in your drinking establishments).
This whole working deal is working out pretty tops. The kids are getting used to the way I do things (militant about manners and pretty unforgiving when it comes to not sitting and listening during carpet time), I’ve started a thinking cushion in the back of the room and it’s been having a fair work out but they seem to be getting it and controlling their own behaviour before they need to go to the cushion which is the ultimate goal. I have my favourites and the ones I would happily leave in the carpark if I was allowed but overall they are a pretty reasonable bunch of people to work with. I got a new student today and he was an epic win at being the new kid. No tears, no fuss, just straight into playing, mixing with the other kids and just generally being a very pleasant little person, it was great. We’ve been doing lots of craft and my room is starting to look like it sees children often rather than the oversized store room than it previously resembled.
Yeah, this is a bit of a kid post, sorry guys. Right now I am off to laminate some paintings, print some photos and generally get my shit together, I finally have met all the kids and have a fair idea of how shit works so now it’s time to get into making the magic happen. I was hoping to have a giant spiderweb spun across the back wall by tomorrow morning but I forgot to buy yarn when I was at the shops, looks like our spiders will be homeless for another night.
far too good to me and agreed to come, even without any begging on my part, and for that I am forever greatful. I’d heard that Patience from The Grates might be the special guest but had no way of knowing for sure, but I was happy enough just to go for Muno. As we were walking through the foyer to go and sit, I walked past her! I managed to play it very cool (by hissing to Miss Jones “Holy FUCK, It’s Patience!!”) and then attempted to hang over the upper level to see if I could see her some more, but we couldn’t. After the encore she came out with Alana and they taught the “Roo Bop” which was a little dance. I want her jacket so fucking much, it was a birthday present from Alana (*cough* stalker much? *cough*). So, Patience in person? She’s really, really tiny and really, really blonde but she just has excitement bubbling out of her. I kinda wish I grew a set and actually said hi and got a photo but what can you do? So much better to have walked past and flipped out to Miss Jones (who already knows I am lame) than to try and speak to her and come off as a truly insane person. Alana looked really cute, I love her top as well (and would actually wear it), this is a picture from The Grates tour blog of Patience and Alana on stage on Saturday. Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
